New Eyes - Creative Image Class with Photographer Tilak Hettige Begins May 22, 2020
Beginning May 22, 2020 photographer Tilak Hettige will guide you through techniques of creating art-like images that touch the heart and soul of others with exercises to improve creativity, techniques of good composition, and use of fundamental visual blocks. You will participate in numerous exercises to improve your creativity and be able to recognize when and where to look for artistic creations. What will you do differently afterwards? Instead of taking hundreds of snap shots you will learn to be selective and capture the essence of an event in one photograph. This will show you the difference between an artistic message and a documentary record. You will have less clutter in your image but it will be more powerful than before because you will give much thought to your creation before an image is captured rather than trying to fix it after taking an ordinary shot. You will develop your eyes to see things differently and more carefully taking time to admire the wondrous beauty of nature or the numerous facets of human behavior. This class will begin on Friday, May 22, 2020 with an initial introductory meeting online with Tilak. It is available to all individuals ages 15 and older. Today, many think that photography is all about capturing images through high-resolution modern cameras and using programs to elevate sharpness and saturation of their images. Creativity does not come from technology and it is not a computer game. Rather, it is a means to see the world in slow motion and open your eyes wider, to make meaningful images that will last and be cherished for years to come.
Let’s begin the journey with your smart phone or a basic digital camera that you may have. This lecture series will guide you through some simple but challenging exercises to see the world differently.
