Intro to Indian Classical Music and Sitar by Alif Laila
Ms. Alif Laila grew up in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her mother, Shehida Haque, introduced her to the sitar. After initial training in vocal music, she became the disciple of late Ustad Mir Qasem Khan, nephew of the legendary Ustad Alauddin Khan, founder of the Senia Maihar Gharana. Alif received her Bachelors degree in Fine Arts from Dhaka University. She moved to the USA in 1981 and continued to study sitar (going back and forth between the US and India) under great teachers including Partha Chatterjee, Krishna Bhatt and Kushal Das.
