Rasa in Yoga and Yoga in Performance with Priyadarshini Shome

The Gandhi Memorial Center in collaboration with the Embassy of India invite you to a presentation and dance demonstration by Priyadarshini Shome that highlights the Natya Sastra and Indian Sanskrit Performance Techniques that are a complete Yogic System of embodied practice and lead to ultimate Rasa or aesthetic evocation both for the performer and the spectator. Ms. Shome is an accomplished Indian classical and contemporary dancer, choreographer and Visiting Faculty at Brown University.

Priyadarshini Ghosh Shome, Artistic Director of Natyanova, has been an established Classical Mohini Attam dancer, as well as Contemporary dancer and choreographer for the past many years. Starting her training with Guru Smt Thankamani Kutty in the classical dance styles of Bharatanatyam and Mohini Attam, she specialized in Mohini Attam, with Kalamandalam Kalyani Kutty Amma and is a disciple of Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan in Abhinaya. Trained in Seraikella Chhau with Sashadhar Acharya, she is proficient in Yoga with a teacher’s certification. An MFA in Dance from Kalidas Sanskrit University, she has a Diploma for Performing Arts from the Children’s Little Theatre. She has also completed a senior fellowship in dance research from the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India.

Apart from Mohini Attam, having ventured into Contemporary Dance, amalgamating cross training in some modern dance and Improvisation techniques with Indian dance, martial arts and Yoga, she performs and lectures actively in many prestigious venues and festivals both as a soloist and also with her Natyanova troupe, including a tour to east Europe with the ICCR.
